FAQ

What is themove.social?

A simple, anonymous bulletin board for your school. Boards reset roughly every 24 hours. Post once for free, react, or pay to feature a post.

How is this anonymous?
  • No raw emails stored. We store a one-way hash (SHA-256 + secret pepper) of your .edu email.
  • Session tokens, not accounts. Your browser gets a signed token (HMAC) that only encodes board + anonymous author hash.
  • No names, no profiles, no DMs.
Can anyone reverse the email hash?

No—without the secret pepper, the stored hash is not reversible. We never save the raw email.

What data do you keep and for how long?
  • Posts and reactions tied to an anonymous author hash.
  • EmailAccess binding (email-hash → board) so you can return on any device.
  • Payment receipts and minimal logs to prevent abuse.

Front-end boards reset daily. Backend records are kept up to 90 days, then deleted or anonymized.

Are you affiliated with my university?

No. Independent project. Respect campus policies and the law.

What content isn’t allowed?

No threats, doxxing, harassment, illegal activity, or IP violations. We may hide content and respond to valid takedown requests (see Takedown Policy).

How do reactions work?

One reaction per user per post. Clicking the same reaction toggles it off; switching flips it.

How do paid posts work?

Stripe processes payment; we never see your card. Pricing scales with board size ($1–$5).

Law enforcement?

We handle valid legal requests for stored records. We cannot disclose raw emails we never store.

Who do I contact?
